Burning Man 2008
Here are some testimonies from our team as the Lord reached into the hearts of those He sent to us.
From Melissa
Here are my testimonies:
We met David during our “spiritual surge” session where we used movement to get in “contact” with the “spirit of light” (the Holy Spirit). David asked the spirit to come and He did. I did a dance over him and his eyes flew open and he said “Jesus!” We did not even mention his name. He got so blessed he went and got a friend.
Her name was Amaya and the Caleb ministered to her. They invited the spirit to come and she was moved that she began shouting for Him to yell into her heart. Caleb shouted “ZION” and “Elohim” and she was delivered from a spirit of lust and perversion. It was incredible.
We met Terrence who also came in search of a spiritual experience. We began to prophesy and sing over him and he had a major encounter with the Holy Spirit. He got delivered from a lot of darkness and said he felt cleansed and lighter. He then went and got a friend and continued to come back and visit us throughout the time we were there.
His friend’s name was Jesse and he was a little hesitant at first, but when we invited the Holy Spirit he got emotional. We began to sing and prophesy over him and he also received deliverance from darkness. He said he felt like he was floating and needed to soak for a while. He stayed and hung out with us for a while.
We met a man named Amir who wanted one of his dreams interpreted. We began interpreting his dreams and asked him if he wanted a spiritual experience. He said yes and the Holy Spirit came. We were able to do some deliverance on him and he said that he felt free and clear.
We met a guy named Lon who was from Transylvania. I am not sure how true that is because the beginning of our encounter consisted of him fabricating a lot of stories. I went behind him and silenced the lying spirit and then the encounter changed. We were able to minister to him and prophesy over him and he had a significant encounter with the Holy Spirit and got inner healing.
We encountered a guy that called himself “The Phoenix”. He talked about having many spiritual experiences like levitating, and catching orbs. He was confused about why he had these experiences and wanted the “spirit of truth” to come and enlighten him. At this point, it turned into a power encounter. When I began to invite the spirit he put his hands up to release something so I released the glory on him and he began to shake, vibrate and heat up. He said, “You are very well practiced!!” The encounter continued and he went through some deliverance. After the encounter he said he hadn’t felt like that before. I began to prophesy to him about his name and I shared the father’s love with him. His brother thereafter came in 2 times because he was fascinated by the encounter his brother had and he was equally as fascinated that we were Christians.
We met a guy named Justin who had just gotten back from Spain. We invited the spirit of light to come and Justin had a major encounter. One of our team members sang a spiritual song in Spanish over him and he began singing along (so cool!!). He said that he felt lighter and freer.
I met a guy who claimed to be an atheist. We invited the spirit of truth and he felt the tangible presence of God. I told him I was a follower of Jesus and I began to prophesy over him. He admitted to being Jewish and admitted that he believed that there was a God by the end on the encounter.
A guy named Willie came in and said he just wanted to do well at his teaching. We began to sing and prophesy over him. The Holy Spirit came and we were able to do inner healing on him. He was so grateful and said the he was ready to go and he felt free and his mind clear and renewed passion.
We met a young lady named Amy who came in with a friend. She wasn’t looking for an encounter at first, but when we told her that we did “deep root recovery” (inner healing). She lit up and said she would like her “chakra” unlocked (she was pointing to her heart). We invited the spirit of truth to come and she said she could see herself flying. The presence of God increased and we began to prophesy over her. One of the team members asked if they could release what’s bound up in her and yelled over her. She got up out of her chair and yelled and began laughing and crying. After that she received Jesus as her savior. She came back and visited several times and we gave her a Bible.
We ministered to a girl named Camilla from Denmark who came in discouraged and needed direction. She was a “fire dancer”, but had been doing mortgage brokering and was not feeling confident about her ability. We ministered to her and did some inner healing and I danced over her and released the dance in her. We began dancing around the room with scarves (a lot of fun). She ended us hanging out at our camp for the rest of time and taught one of our team members how to fire dance. We asked her to sign our banner so we would remember he and she wrote, “I walked in a quiet office mouse and left a fire dancer!”
We met a young man named Adam who was from Israel (He was Jewish). He was seeking a spiritual experience so we invited the spirit of truth to come. We began to prophesy over him and the Lord said he was to be a liberator of his people as he would find the light and the truth. Another team member who is Native American prophesied that he was to get in touch with his “tribe” and used a lot of parallels. It was awesome. As he was leaving I gave him a piece of jewelry that read “Ruach”. He was very surprised and asked me how I knew the word and I told him that what he was taught growing up was only words unless God breathes on it. He kept hugging me thereafter.
I have to say that my life has been changed after this experience and I pray that I have the eyes of Jesus all the rest of my days as I had when I was there. Thank you so much for your loving support and prayers. Many lives were touched because of you!!! Caleb and I are now off to Thailand to go after the sex trade. We feel burning really prepared us for this trip.
Blessings,
Melissa
Burning Man stories (2008)
I loved the fact that the nations come to the playa (Burning Man)! I’m bilingual (English / Spanish) and counted it such joy to be able to sing over people in both languages as the Lord gave me songs for them. One (Spanish) young man began to sing along with me as I sang, “Trae gozo, paz, y libertad…..no hay nada que compara con la verdad!” (Translation: Bring joy, peace, and liberty….there’s nothing that compares to the truth!) I had also lived in Turkey for 3 months as a high school exchange student –God let nothing go to waste. Two Turkish young men sat down to have a spiritual experience. While one was clearly open to what we had to say in our spiritual reading (aka: prophetic20ministry), his friend was more closed off and skeptical. But Ahmed (the more open one) kept telling us that what we were speaking about his friend was right on. At the end of the encounter when they each wrote on our banner, our skeptical Turk wrote in Turkish: “This was a beautiful experience. Thank you all.”
I came to the team to play (the drum) and sing over people prophetically (“healing with sound”). I was continually amazed at the people who came in the tent knowing that this was what they wanted / needed. A couple of weeks prior to the trip, God had given me a song during intercession. I knew it was for someone I would meet at Burning Man. Beth & Dean came to us clearly wounded as individuals and in their marriage. We spent quite some time ministering to Beth. First I played the song on my flute over her. Then I explained that the Creator had given me this song just for her and that it was a healing song. I then drummed and sang it and she began to weep. Caleb ministered to her husband and it was like waves had washed over both of them. They left much different than they had come in. It was beautiful to see this restoration begin.
Many of us got to visit with our “frequent flyers”- those who couldn’t get enough of “The Freedom Tent”. But our love and His words of encouragement weren’t confined to the tent. Our fire dancer Camilia felt a real sense of community among us and blessed with a fire dance performance and taught one of our team members (Sam) her skill. Camilia needed to hear that it’s okay to be Camilia….that she was created with a unique purpose and destiny. I discerned that she would frequently compare herself to others and always fell short. I assured her that she was created for only purposes that she could fulfill on this earth and that the Father of All, her Creator loves her deeply. Terrence was such a surprise. We wondered why such “a nice young man” was here in this place and in a camp with people doing lots of drugs and alcohol (of which he did neither). As I sat and spoke with him it became clear to me. I told him that I could see light and life shooting out of his eyes. That people are drawn to him and follow him. He said, “I know…and I don’t know why.” I said, “I do….it’s because you honor them and love them.” He broke down crying. He has such a shepherding gift and he had no idea. He was there because he loves people! I prayed for him that he would gain strength and wisdom in leading people.
I loved enco untering the Israelis who came and even a Sephardic (Spanish) Jewish woman who was searching for her roots. For Adam (an Israelite), I saw the name “David” on him. I told him that like stories of David in his (oral) history, so he would be one who leads his people as a mighty warrior. I clarified that the primary function of a warrior is to defend the people (and not to kill). I told him that he needed to know his heritage because there was an inheritance there for him. I made comparisons between “the tribes” and how our identity is no accident, but indicative of the purpose for which we were created. I sensed he had been running from it, but now seemed to be taking it all in. He and his girlfriend (who had “deep wisdom” all over her) were among those who requested healing with sound. So I simply drummed over them as I prophesied.
There were so many c ollege aged kids seeking spiritual experiences, seeking truth. Some were open to anything. Others were more cautious. God totally met people exactly where they were. With some you could dance, drum, & speak in tongues as loud as you wanted. Others would probably be a little freaked out by this. One of these guys was Casey. He was so analytical (yet so seeking) that I knew I had to be “conservative”. Even though I was drumming the whole time that I was speaking with him I felt that I had to tell him that I wasn’t going to do anything freaky or make him do anything freaky. (He seemed visibly relieved.) I also told him that drumming was my way of connecting with the Creator. But I did tell him that it was time for his mind to disengage for his heart to be able to hear. I believe he did hear that day J
One of my favorite stories from the playa was an answer to prayers prayed before I came. I had asked the Lord for a sign in the heavens during Burning Man – that rain would fall and water the dry land. On our last night there, Sonja and I sat in chairs along our street waiting for Camila. She had invited us to drum while she fire danced that night. We drummed while we waited. Then along came a guy on a bike. He called out to me, “Hey, are you Medicine Woman?” “Yeah”, I responded, “Something like that.” He decided to stay and dance as we drummed. He actually had quite the warrior dance going. It surprised me since I didn’t think he was Indian. It turns it he was – EAST Indian. His name was Summit. And when he said, “Aho!” at the end of the=2 0dance I had to ask him how he knew that. (It’s a native expression, like a “yes!” “agreed” or like an “amen”.) He said that he had some Lakota friends. Then he perked up even more and said, “Hey, let’s do a rain dance! Let’s do a rain song!” “Sure”, I replied with a smile and knowing that he was coming into agreement with my prayer. Sonja and I began drumming again and I began singing prophetically, “Come, Spirit come…. Pour out your rains upon the land….Send streams into the desert.” After a couple of minutes Sonja suddenly stopped and said, “I felt raindrops!” So we kept going. And then Summit and I felt the rain. It just sprinkled for a bit, but we all felt it. On the way home (from Nevada into Utah) it absolutely poured down rain most of the trip! AHO!!! (Summit = releasing worship from the “high places”)

Burning Man 2008 testimony from Sonja
The first person that came into our tent was named Asiane…or at least pronounced like Akiane with an “s”. I had had a dream the night or two before about a relative of mine named Akiale (again, just one consonant different than Akiane) being kidnapped and then recovered. As we spoke words about the kind of person she is and will be, her boyfriend, wearing a Fred Flintstone-like jaguar cape, kept saying how amazing it was, exactly who she was. She was open and teary.
Then came Dr. Pepper. This was such a team encounter. Cindy unlocked frozen parts of his brain and asked Creator to give him a vision. Sam led him in a release of breath and imparted an electricity through his hands that Cindy saw him doing and asked him to do, and I felt it tangibly. I prayed for him to be blessed with life-giving people around him and to receive in a new way the love of God. He then got weepy and told us that he’d had a vision of Jesus. Tonya told him we were followers of Jesus and shared what Jesus had done for her. He said, “I guess I need more of Jesus in my life” and shared how when he was studying yoga in India how he just longed to come back to the United States and go to church and help the church people find more of God. Although he was Iranian, he’d gone to a Catholic high school. I asked if we could sing over him and as I sang he cried, then had me stop because he felt he was going to lose it there and didn’t feel comfortable with the other people in the tent. Then he said, “I wish we could just stay here and you could sing and we could talk about how much the Father loves us, loves ME, but I think I’m ready to go now and spend some time with Jesus.” His real name was Farshad, which in Farsi means “full of joy” and Tonya had mentioned at first that she saw joy in his eyes. He left with even more.
During “Spirit Surge” on our first day all together as a team, we started out in worship and then people came into our tent. It was another team deal. Those who entered felt the Spirit and the freedom and joined in…and then as each member had something we would flow over and minister with song, dance, tongues, blessings, prophecies, prophetic acts and prayer. The point: There was a lot of freedom in the Freedom Lounge! I can only imagine that each built on what was done before. I ministered to David who was totally open and then Ellen, who was a little locked up and left much more free.
One of the treats I received personally was getting to minister together with almost every person on the team. Each had our own style and yet flowed well. Caleb and I ministered to a young girl with trust and identity issues. Her name was Cinnamon, playa name, she never did trust us with her real name, but she’s at a crossroads and is going to a new college next year, and we agreed and decreed that she would find her identity as a beloved daughter of Creator. More tears.
I got to watch as Caleb found exactly where a person was coming from and go there with them and then journey with them. That was the case with Jess. “Where is it that you find God?” “In Nature, but she’s hurting,” cried Jess. “Why?” “Because she’s waiting for us!” Right from Romans 8, but Jess didn’t know that. Caleb started there, right there with her, the groans, the labor, the birthing…Jess felt understood, trusted us, opened to Creator, to love. Drew a heart in the middle of the man, and wrote, “Let the seed of truth grow.” So be it, Daddy.
Missy was one of my favorites and I can’t quite remember why. Maybe because I felt like I knew her. Maybe it has something to do with how Jesus felt when the one leper came back to say thanks. She came back and gave Diane and I each a fuzzy purple armband. But also we got to share that we were followers of Jesus. And although she didn’t know quite what to do with that, she gratefully allowed us to pray for healing for her digestive issues (Crone’s disease—Daddy show yourself unmistakably in healing and care for Missy) and also was really excited for us to pray for and bless her boyfriend in producing movies with a positive message such as August Rush (which she loved) and documentaries which spur compassionate action. Diane ministered inner healing and I helped walk her through some forgiveness toward her parents.
God gave me a word of knowledge for Justin at the port-o-potties, I saw him going in so I waited and gave it to him when he came out. That’ll preach, (something, I’m sure.) So, I invited him back with me to hear more, and when I asked him to go ahead and in his own words invite the Spirit of Truth, I heard him say, “Te invito, Espiritu de Verdad”. My love language! I ministered to him a bit in Spanish, and Kelly began to sing a song as she played her drum. “Lavanos en Tu amor, nada compara a la verdad”. “Wash us in your love, nothing compares with the truth.” Justin began to sing along. Great fun in the freedom Daddy gives!
I met Casey at the base of the man when we were out the night before. Such a nice guy, he seemed too innocent to be at Burning Man. It was his first year and he’d come with a group of friends. We invited him to stop by the Freedom Lounge, and I was so excited when he did. He’d had a dream that he was in an empty grocery store making out with the Dali Lama. I asked him what his spiritual upbringing was, and he said, “Fiercely atheist, strictly enforced.” But he’d dabbled in some Buddhism for a while until he got too busy and now his spiritual life was suffering, he was into computers and finding a job. This encounter was when I got to see Kelly really shine in her steady, wise, revelatory, yet even-keeledness. As she drummed and shared, she reassured Casey that we weren’t going to have him do anything weird, that we just did what we were comfortable with and she was drumming because she was native and this connected her with the heartbeat of Creator. She affirmed the way Casey was created and the honesty of his spirit to seek intimacy. We ministered to his spirit that he would know the truth, know the Life-giver. Details are hazy, but the process is in motion.
You know how sometimes there’s a theme? For me, this week, I was most “on” in recognizing when women had had to walk on eggshells around their mothers and leading them in forgiveness and giving them a mother’s blessing. Twice when I said, “I get the feeling you needed to walk on eggshells around your mother,” two women burst into tears. With Mandy, her breasts were popping out of a tight, black, leather vest, right in my face. This prompted me to think of El Shaddai, the many-breasted one. I told her this was one of the Hebrew names for God, which represented the feminine, nurturing side that had more than enough time, patience, nurture, blessing, and re-parenting for her. I got to give her a mother’s blessing. Ironic, since I’ve never had children, but I’ve been put on the spot to do it before and it was successful as far as healing, agreement and tears went. So I went for it again. She and her boyfriend live in Salt Lake City and she’s excited about Cindy’s church, we introduced them and they agreed they didn’t like religion or politics when it came to knowing God’s love.
Jennifer was another amazing encounter. She was Asian, from New York City, and her boyfriend, Adam was from Israel. They’d met two years ago when she went on a trip to Israel and Egypt. They came in and asked for “Healing with Sound”, something on our menu board that Ray Hughes was going to facilitate, but he couldn’t make it. We all looked at them and said, “Okay!” So, Kelly got her drum and started drumming, Melissa started praying in tongues over Adam and I started singing over Jennifer. She went somewhere. I tried talking with her and asking her to invite the Spirit of Truth in her own words and there was no response. Finally I said, “Jennifer, can I see your eyes?” She looked at me and I communicated the request. She began to sing, much in the same melody I had been singing in. She sang, “Creator, come into me, fill me up. Holy Spirit, come into me, fill me up.” I was like, “WOW!” but it was quite loud with the drum and Melissa J so I double checked what I’d heard. “Jennifer, I want to use the same language that you are comfortable with. Did you say Holy Spirit?” She nodded. So we took off. I encouraged her that I loved to sing with Holy Spirit and make up songs as I went, and that if she asked Holy Spirit for wisdom and insight in songs, she’d have a great time listening to what he gave her to sing. And we sang some more. I blessed her spirit in relationship with Holy Spirit, and told her that she would be getting revelation that would be helpful to Adam as well. Two cool things at the end: Kelly gave her a silk scarf (each had a different caption/message) that said, “sphere of influence”. Kelly hadn’t heard me and picked it for the colors and explained the colors to her. Jennifer and I laughed at the confirmation. She will receive wisdom for others. I told her her name meant “white wave” and about the power of the waves and the purity represented by white. She signed the banner saying, “thank you for helping release the song within me, ‘White Wave’.”
My personal highlight was getting impartation from each of you. Cindy, God kicked me up a notch from watching you and the power of the decree. Rick (my husband) has noticed. Melissa, the freedom, joy and energy…I’ve been praying in tongues quantum more than before, thanks for laying your hands on me…I had the hunger for the impartation from seeing the fruit in you. Diane, when we ministered to Missy…your compassion and insight into the healing of childhood owies was beautiful, and your compassion toward me all week was noticeable even though I didn’t feel deserving, thank you. Tonya, you’re amazing at team ministry, not only because you covered me (twice!) when I got way excited/a little off track and you brought it back, but also are exemplary at dovetailing and honoring the one you’re ministering with. Thanks. Marilyn, both times I ministered with you, your words of knowledge were so naturally supernatural. You hear specifics and keep it real. Caleb, most amazing at going right where a person’s at and remaining in the spirit. I watched you ask and ask, search and search until you got there and then really spirit to spirit. And, when you couldn’t, like with purple lady Becky who’d just come from the temple…if I may quote you, “I just wasn’t feeling a connection” truthful. (neither was I!) Debbie: intercessor extraordinaire. The only time I ministered with you there were about five of us and you were so content to remain in the background and pray. Thank you. And thanks for serving behind the scenes, hosting, organizing, all those things that don’t maybe get praise but aren’t easy. That’s one thing I can note about the whole experience. THANK YOU INTERCESSORS!!!!!!! Kelly, I mentioned before: so secure, connected, wise, creative and real, there was an amazing flow and freedom with your prophesying and drum. And Samiam: you sacrificed, came early for hard work, connected us with Russ the blessing, showed us how to be light hearted in the midst of heaviness, worked hard, played hard, slept hard J very authentic, generous, and flexible ‘til the end. (Note to all: this is just my small snapshot of what blessed me in your styles…very UNcomprehensive, not at all defining, just a small facet of the hugeness of God in you that blessed me when I needed it). Again, to re-state, I TANGIBLY feel an impartation from each of you and feel much richer for ministering with you and am so thankful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing team. Talk about God putting a group together….Thank you Abba! And pour lavish amounts of water and nutrients on the seeds we planted…
The B-Man Survival Guide was an encounter for me. It reads like the bible. Community, contribution, value, all things in common......Sounds like Love to me. And that’s what I saw. Value in every one no matter what you liked, disliked, did, how you dressed if you dressed…….a Non-threatening environment. I felt more concern walking across the Wal-Mart parking lot than going to the Johnny’s.
God used Debbie and me to touch Matthew John, one of the guys from next door. Matthew didn’t know his true value or the gift he is to his students. He is a wrestling coach. God showed us the Lion inside of him and how he would bring life to those he stewarded and help them to find their lion inside. He is a parochial school kid that the church didn’t know what to do with. That’s what breaks my heart. We (the church) have lost such gifts!!!! He said we knew more about him than his counselor of many years. We told him it was a Spirit encounter and we really didn’t have anything for him but what The Creator gave us. He was touched! I know Debbie and I were!
We had the dyed scarves that God would use. One of the ladies He told me to give the scarf called courage. She cried and received and said she knew it was inside of her but no one recognized it. We called it out in her and Caleb did a courage dance over her and she then flagged with his flags and danced.
Sonja and I prayed for Missy’s complete healing from Crones disease. She also received a great touch from His hand. Value was restored and The Breath of Life Breathed on her.
Amir received a corrected path. Sonja, Deb, Melissa, Marilyn and I prayed with him, interpreted his dream and washed his feet. He walked in heavy and walked out looking rested. Hugs for everyone. Daddy God continue to direct his path and for him to pass his test that was in his dream.
Meeting others in love with the Lord was so wonderful. Peter and Kurt were a blessing. They helped me to see B-Man better from other views in the land.
Looking forward to my next B-Man!
Thanks so much for your trust and guidance,
D
